Luminext's smart lighting for highway A28

The matter

Rijkswaterstaat wants to be able to remotely control the light level of the new LED lighting on the 11-kilometer-long Traverse A28 junction Hattemerbroek. She sets high standards for public lighting, including a link with the Telesignal system at its own traffic control center.

The solution

Within the extensive project ‘Together faster at destination’, contractor BAM Infra is replacing public lighting on this route. Luminext’s smart lighting system ensures that Schréder’s new luminaires can be dimmed from the traffic control center during the quiet night hours.

That’s smart!

Dimming results in maximum energy savings. If there is an emergency on the highway, the light level can be increased at the touch of a button by connecting Telesignal from the traffic control center. For example, road safety is supported and emergency services have a good view of their work.

High demands

With the proven stable technology for large-scale projects from Luminext, the high-quality products for the RF communication network and the numerous functionalities of the telemanagement software, Luminext meets all requirements prescribed by Rijkswaterstaat.

Smart maintenance

In addition to remotely controlling the lighting along the highway, BAM and Rijkswaterstaat intend to make use of the information that the smart light poles themselves send to the telemanagement system. For example, the smart lighting hardware in each luminaire automatically sends a message if there is a defect. The contractor can then omit the inspection rounds and plan the repair work simply and cost-efficiently.

Sustainability strategy

Rijkswaterstaat wants to be energy neutral by 2030. Replacing all public lighting on the Dutch highways with smart LED lighting is part of its sustainability strategy. Rijkswaterstaat wants to ensure that it is as safe as possible on the road. Smart lighting fits within her vision.
